At the start of our new school year we gained a new special education teacher, Mrs. Renee Thomas. She previously worked for Mid – Central Education Co-Op inPlatte, SD. The job was tough. She was in different places daily. Here though it is much easier. She has one room she has to worry about and that’s it. The toughest part about her job is that she has to work with different age groups. Other than that she loves it!

In high school she had one person that she looked up to the most, and he was her literature teacher. Coincidentally while she was in college, she took a couple classes with him as the instructor! Mrs. Thomas went to two different colleges: theUniversityofSioux Fallsfor her bachelor’s degree in education andBlack HillsStateUniversityto finish it off with a degree in the special education department. When I asked if college was tough, she said, “College is always going to be a challenge, but you just have to push through it.”

Aside from her, her family also enjoys the job that she does. Mrs. Thomas has three kids, her youngest is in first grade, her middle child is in third, and the oldest is in fifth. Her husband, Andy, is an insurance manager at Bank West. Besides work, Mrs. Thomas also has other things she enjoys to do, such as, reading, outdoor activities with her family, and watching the activities her kids are in.
