On Tuesday, the Lady Gorillas lost against Chamerberlain. The final score was 53 (Greg.) – 64 (Cham). The first three quarters were very close, 8-11, 25-28, and 37-45. In the last quarter, Chamberlain secured the lead. Overall, the Lady Gorillas had a 31% shooting average and a 57% free throw average. The Gregory girls also grabbed 25 rebounds, 7 assists, 11 steals, 20 personal fouls, and 12 turnovers.

Jessy Jo VanDerWerff scored a remarkable 31 points during the game. She made 11/24 (46%) of her field shots and 8/12 (67%) of her free throws. Both Megan Warnke and Sydney Svatos scored five points, with Svatos making 2/7 (29%) of her shots and 1/3 (33%) of her free throws. Warnke made 1/9 (11%) of her shots and 2/3 (67%) of her free throws. Brooklyn Kenzy and Brooklyn VanDerWerff both scored four points, with Kenzy making 2/9 (22%) of her field shots and B. VanDerWerff making 1/4 (25%) of her field shots and 1/1 (100%) of her freethrows.

Sydney Svatos had five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Megan Warnke had four rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Gracie Kenzy had four rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Brooklyn VanDerWerff had four rebounds and four steals. Jessy Jo VanDerWerff had three rebounds and three assists.  

“The game was very close and intense all the way through; we need to get better at rebounding, and if we can do that, we’re going to put ourselves in the position to win a lot more ball games,” Coach Klundt said.

The girls’ next game is tonight at Gregory against White River. The C-team game will start at 5:15.
