Last Saturday, the two-man varsity cross country team traveled to Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls for state cross country. Freshman Emma Thomas represented Gregory for the girls’ varsity and eighth grader Luke Sinclair for the boys’ varsity. Emma ran hard and finished in 37th place and Luke won 85th.

110 girls competed in the class B girls’ run. First place runner Jolie Dugan from Jones County had a time of 19:12.63. Emma Thomas had a time 21:14.71.

Luke Sinclair ran against 120 other boys in his race and placed 85th with a time of 19:25.53. The class B state cross country winner was Cody Larson from Warner with a time of 16:32.14.

This concludes the runners’ seasons for 2018. Thomas’ personal best time this year was a 5k run in 20:55. Sinclair’s fastest 5k was 19:27. Toby McMillen, the lone junior varsity runner on the team, had a best time of 22:42 for a 4k.

“Our state meet wasn’t quite what we wanted, but that doesn’t define our whole season. It was a great season with lots of success for everyone,” Coach Jennifer Voight said.
