Running Strong

Jennifer Voigt, Head Coach

Seven Gorilla Cross Country runners started the week out with a challenging meet at the Bon Homme Country Club near Tyndall last Monday. This was our 8th meet of the season and a just a few on the team have run them all, so those few are about raced out with others still getting nervous because they haven’t raced much yet. We had a good day with some successful races.

Lauren Svatos ran a 25:15 and placed 34th in the varsity girl’s race with 48 runners participating.  Samantha Timanus and Summer Talsma both logged personal best records on the 4K JV course with Samantha earning 10th place at 20:34 and Summer close behind in 11th at 20:39.

Aaron Voigt outdid his time on this course a year ago by close to a minute and a half, clocking a personal best time of 17:19 and placing 3rd out of the 46 boys competing.  Joseph Veskrna was our next runner in at 20:57, placing 28th and Garret Roeder in 45th place at 23:51. Santana Serr pulled a muscle in his leg and was unable to finish the race.

The Gorillas travel to Burke for the South Central Invite on Thursday and to Winner for our SESD conference meet on Monday October 3rd.  After that, all we have left is our Region meet in Freeman on Wednesday October 12th and the State meet on Saturday October 22nd.
