Track team competes at Lake Andes with boys winning their second meet

The track team traveled to Lake Andes Tuesday to compete in multiple events. There were six teams that competed at the meet. Those teams were, Burke/South Central, Colome, Platte/Geddes, Andes Central/Dakota Christian, Kimball/White Lake, and Gregory. The boys’ team took home first.

For the girls, Lauren Svatos placed 1st in the 100m hurdles and 2nd in 300 hurdles. The girls 4X100 relay placed 1st with a time of 57.23 and the 4X200 relay placed 4th with 2:13.81. In the 4X400 relay the girls placed 4th with a time of 4:53.39. Megan Warnke placed 4th in high jump with a jump of 4’10”. Warnke also pre-qualified for state with that jump. The girls’ team ended up getting 6th with a total of 46 points.

For the boys 110m hurdles, Joseph Veskrna placed 1st in 17.6, Blake Boes placed 2nd in 19.6, and Peyton Feyereisen placed 3rd in 19.9. The boys received 1st in the 4X200 with a time of 1:38.7, they also got 1st in the 4X100 relay in a time of 46.7. Aaron Voigt placed 1st in the mile run with a time of 4:57.9. Oliver Thieme received 6th in the 400m dash with a time of 1:01.5. For the medley relay the boys ran a 4:03.4 for 2nd place. In the 4X400 the boys also received 2nd. Jayd VanDerWerff jumped 19’5” in long jump and earned 2nd place. The boys’ team overall placed 1st with 143 points with Platte/Geddes following behind in second place with 126 points.

Warnke said, “I’m very excited that I get to go to state and hopefully keep progressing till then.”

The track team’s next meet will be in Mitchell for the Corn Palace Relays on April 16, starting at 9:00 a.m.
