The Gregory Track Team hosted its first meet of the year on Tuesday. The teams who attended were Kimball/White Lake, Todd County, Colome, Chamberlain, Winner, Platte-Geddes, Lyman, Bennett County, Jones County, and St. Francis. The Gorilla men took home first at the meet scoring 156 points beating the closest team, Todd County, by 57 points.

For the women relays the 4X100 meter team placed 2nd with a time of 57.5. The 4X400 meter relay placed 2nd with a time of 4:51, and the 1600 medley relay placed 4th with a time of 5:24. For individual events Jacey Feyereisen placed 2nd in high jump with a jump of 4’4”, and Maddie Eklund placed 4th with a jump of 4’2”. Lauren Svatos placed 3rd in both the 100 and 300 meter hurdles with times of 18.6 and 55.2. Sydney Svatos placed 2nd in triple jump with a jump of 29’9”. The Lady Gorillas placed 5th overall at the meet scoring 54 points.

For the men Johan Andersen placed 2nd in the 100 meter dash, and 1st in the 200 meter dash with times of 12.3 and 25 seconds. Caleb Stukel placed 5th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.4 seconds. Joseph Veskrna placed 4th in the 200 meter dash, 1st in the 110 hurdles, and 2nd in the 100 meter hurdles with times of 25.5, 17.4, and 45.3 seconds. Robert Vomacka placed 4th in the 400 meter dash and first in triple jump with a time of 57 seconds and a jump of 36’4”. Aaron Voigt placed 1st in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs with times of 4:58 and 11:10. Jayd VanDerWerff placed 2nd in long jump with a jump of 17’9” and 1st in the 300 hurdles with a time of 44.9 seconds. Triv Vosika placed 1st in high jump with a jump of 6’ already prequalifying him for the state track meet. Blake Boes placed 4th in the 110 meter hurdles, 5th in the 300 meter hurdles, and 3rd in high jump with times of 20.1, 47.6 seconds and a jump of 5’7”. The 4X100 meter relay team placed 1st with a time of 47 seconds. The 4X200 team placed 3rd with a time of 1:44. The 4X400 team placed 2nd with a time of 3:51. The 4X800 team placed 2nd with a time of 4:56, and the medley relay team placed 3rd with a time of 4:18. The Gorilla men took home first at the meet scoring 156 points beating the closest team, Todd County, by 57 points.

Assistant Coach Jennifer Voigt said, “We were very pleased in how well the first meet went and we hope that we can continue to do well in both relays and individual events.”

The Gorillas next track meet will be in Lake Andes tomorrow starting 12:00 p.m.
