Gorillas fall to Cowgirls

The Lady Gorillas took on the Colome Cowgirls on Monday, fighting hard, but losing a close one. The Cowgirls had a small lead at the end of the first half with the Lady Gorillas trailing behind by 4 points. The Cowgirls grew their lead in the third making the score 42-35. The Lady Gorillas could not overcome the deficit in the fourth as the Cowgirls finished out the game outscoring the Lady Gorillas by 2. The final score of the game was 52-43.

Sophomore Emma Schweigert led the Lady Gorillas in scoring with 11 followed by senior Megan Preslicka with 10. Junior Lauren Svatos also chipped in 6 points. Senior Ivy Ekroth led the team in assists with 3, followed by Hannah Juracek and Svatos with 2 apiece. The Lady Gorillas shot 36% from the field, and 40% from the free-throw line.

On the defensive for the Lady Gorillas, Svatos, freshman Megan Warnke, and junior Hannah Juracek all had 2 steals apiece. Schweigert pulled down 8 rebounds on the night, followed by junior Allison Ekroth with 6. Preslicka also had 4 rebounds for the Lady Gorillas.

Schweigert said, “It was really tough losing since we held with them most of the game. We hope that we can come out against Burke/South Central and use what we have learned from this loss.”

The Lady Gorillas’ next game will be tonight against the Burke/South Central Cougars starting at 6:30 p.m. This will be the Lady Gorillas’ final regular season and home game.
