Gorillas defeat Red Raiders

The Gregory Gorillas ran past the Wagner Red Raiders last night coming out with the 11 point victory. In the first quarter the Gorillas outscored the Red Raiders 14-8. In the second quarter the Gorillas continued to grow the lead pushing the score to 30-19. The Red Raiders tried to spark a comeback in the 3rd outscoring the Gorillas by 2 points, but in the fourth the Gorillas shut it down ending the game 48-37.

Leading scoring for the Gorillas was sophomore Jayd VanDerWerff with 19, followed by junior Robert Vomacka with 13. Sophomore Aaron Voigt also had 8 points. The Gorillas shot 39% as a team from the field. Vomacka also led the team in assists with 4 followed by senior Sean Kafka and VanDerWerff with 1 apiece.

Vomacka led the Gorillas in rebounds with 8 followed by VanDerWerff with 7, Voigt also contributed 5 rebounds. VanDerWerff and Kafka led in steals for the Gorillas with 5 apiece. Vomacka and VanDerWerff had the only 2 blocks on the night for the Gorillas.

VanDerWerff said, “I know we can do better offensively and defensively, we just have to focus more and reach our goal at the end of the season.”
