Gorillas Destroy Redmen

The boys basketball team traveled last Tuesday, December 29, to play the Estelline Redmen in the Swiftel Center In Brookings. The team came home very successful with a win of 70-28.
Robert Vomacka led the Gorillas with 18 points, Jayd VanDerWerff followed close behind with a total of 17 points. The Gorillas shot 41% from the field making 30/74 shots. Kolten Salonen and Triv Vosika were the only ones that attempted free throws and made them. Salonen shot 1/3 and Vosika shot 1/1. The Gorillas had a total of 10 assists. VanDerWerff led the team with 3 assists and Sean Kaftka and Vosika each had 2 apiece. The team had 11 steals for the day also.
In the first quarter the Gorillas came out strong and outscored the Redmen by 18-1. Second quarter the Gorillas still remained in the lead with a score of 31-23 going into the half. The Gorillas then came out after halftime and outscored the Redmen 54-25. The boys finished with a win in the fourth quarter with an ending score of 70-28.
“It was a good game for us and we can use that momentum going into the next game,” Vomacka said.
The Gorillas next game will be tonight at home against Andes Central/Dakota Christian with JV starting at 6:30 p.m.
