The Lady Gorilla’s basketball season opener will be tonight at against the Andes Central/Dakota Christian Thunder. The girls are hoping to improve from last season having a record of 5-16. The Lady Gorillas only lost one senior, Brianna Leber, from last year. The team consists of seniors Ivy Ekroth, Megan Preslicka; juniors Lauren Svatos, Allison Ekroth, Hannah Juracek, and Nika EagleStar; sophomores, Emma Schweigert, and Sami Whittney; and freshmen Megan Warnke, Addy Nelson, and Andrea Old Lodge. There will be no junior varsity team this year, but there will be C team games before most of the varsity games.

The Lady Gorillas head coach is John King, and the assistant is Sherrie Kafka. The girls start the season with 2 away games, but their first home game will be Dec. 18 against Platte/Geddes. King said, “I expect to see improvement from last year and I think we’re doing things the right way.” The returning letter winners for the Lady Gorillas are Preslicka, I. Ekroth, Svatos, A. Ekroth, Juracek, and Schweigert.
