Gorillas Win Last Regular Season Home Game

The Gorillas won their last regular season home game against the Kimball/Whitelake WildKats last Friday, Oct. 16, with a score of 52-20.

Two records were broken last Friday. Jayd VanDerWerff broke Mason Juracek’s record of 81 reception yards in 2014. VanDerwerff had 82 yards. Also, Oli Thieme had 7 extra points in a game, breaking his own record previously this year.

The Gorillas offense started off strong with a 55 yard pass from Andy McCance to VanDerWerff and Thieme kicking an extra point, making the score 7-0. Sean Kafka and Robert Vomacka also contributed two touchdowns; each time Thieme kicked an extra point. The WildKats scored at the end of the first quarter, making the score 21-7. In the second, VanDerWerff scored two touchdowns and Kafka scored one, making the score 42-7. The WildKats also scored in the second quarter, bumping up the score 42-14. In the third quarter, Thieme had a 38 yard field goal and VanDerWerff also had a 7 yard run for a touchdown. The WildKats answered back one last time with the last touchdown of the game, bumping up the score to 52-20.

Jon Bakke led the Gorilla defense with 10 tackles. Noah Beck and VanDerWerff each had 7. Kafka and Neitzel each had one interception apiece. The Gorilla defense had one fumble recovery made by Vomacka.

The Gorillas travel tonight to Stanley County to play in the first round of playoffs. Prices will be $5 for students and $7 for adults. Kickoff will be at 6:30 p.m. The game will not be on the cube, but it will be on 93.7 on your radio dial.
