Spikers fall short to Spartans

Tuesday the Gregory Spikers fought hard in a game against the Boyd County Spartans but couldn’t pull out the win losing the match 3 sets to 0. The 1st set was 25-17, the second was 25-17, and the last set was 25-19.

The Spikers were led in kills by senior Jacey Feyereisen and junior Lauren Svatos both with 6 apiece, closely followed by Hannah Juracek with 5. Junior Maddie Eklund served 7/7 times, Svatos served 6/6, senior Ivy Ekroth with 10/10, and junior Hannah Juracek with 6/6 all serving for 100%. The team was 52/54 overall for serves. Hannahs and Eklund were both 100% for attacks, the team averaging 81%.

On the defensive side, the Spikers were led by Eklund with 17/19 serve receptions followed by Svatos with 7/9. The team was 48/58 overall in serve receptions. Eklund also led the team in digs with 12, followed by I. Ekroth and Svatos with 10 apiece. The Spikers tallied 59 digs all together.

Hannahs said, “I know we could have played better than we played last night because we have before, and hopefully we can learn from last night’s loss and use it for the tournament coming up on Saturday.”

The Spikers next competition will be the SESD tournament held in Platte on Saturday, starting at 10:00 a.m.
