The Lady Spikers played in a game against the White River Tigers on Sept. 29 for their first home match but fell short losing the match 3 sets to 1. The Spikers came out strong winning the first set 25-20.

Senior Jacey Feyereisen led the Spikers with 7 kills closely followed by juniors Lauren Svatos and Hannah Juracek with 6 kills apiece. Senior Ivy Ekroth also had 5 kills followed by junior Allison Ekroth with 4. Sophomore Alexa Hannahs led the Spikers in set assists with 62 followed by A. Ekroth with 18.

Junior Maddie Eklund led the Spikers in digs with 25, she also led in serve receptions with 27. Junior Nika Eagle Star also contributed with 20 serve receptions and 5 digs. Senior Brandi Colford and Ekroth both had 7 digs followed by Hannahs with 6 digs.

After the first set the Tigers caught fire and won the next 3 sets. The 2nd set was 25-17, the 3rd was 25-19, and the 4th and final set was 25-12.

Next the Spikers traveled to Chamberlain on Thursday, Oct. 1. The Spikers won the match against the Cubs 3 sets to 2. The Spikers came out strong winning the first set 25-17. The Cubs then rallied to win the next 2 sets 25-18 and 25-17. The Spikers then won the next set 25-6. With the match being tied at 2-2, the spikers went into the last set and won 18-16.

Leading the Spikers in kills was I. Ekroth with 12 followed closely by Feyereisen with 10. Juracek also had 9 kills. Sophomore Emma Schweigert, Svatos, and A. Ekroth all had 6 kills apiece. I. Ekroth, who served 19 times, Svatos, who served 11 times, and Schweigert, who served 5 times, all served for 100%. Hannahs had 88 set assists to contribute to the win.

Eklund led the Spikers with 36 digs followed by Ivy Ekroth with 17. Hannahs and Eagle Star also had 12 digs. Eklund also had 35 serve receptions followed by Eagle Star with 12.

Feyereisen said, “After falling short of a win during the White River game, we were really feeling down. Our huge win in Chamberlain was much needed and hopefully drives us to continue to pull out wins.”

The Spikers next game will be against the Platte-Geddes Panthers tonight at home starting with a C game at 5:15 with JV and varsity to follow.
