Gregory to Host Region V Music Festival on Monday

            On Monday, November 26, 2012 Gregory will host the annual Region V Music Festival.  Directors from the region nominated students for band or choir placements.  There are approximately 100 singers and 90 instrumentalists.  Gregory has nine students in the band and thirteen students in the choir participating. 

            Other area school being represented this year at the Region V Music Festival are Winner, Colome, Burke, South Central, Andes Central, Wagner, Tripp-Delmont, Platte-Geddes, White Lake, Sanborn Central, Woonsocket, Mt. Vernon, Plankinton, and Mitchell Christian.

            There will be a guest conductor in both the band and choir.  Dr. Alan LaFave ofNorthernStateUniversitywill be conducting the band portion and will perform five songs.  Alan LaFave is the dean of fine arts and a professor of music/clarinet at Northern.

            Dr. Wendy van Gent, assistant professor of music education at Northern and directs the choir, will perform six songs.  Wendy van Gent is a vocal educator with extensive experience in choral music, vocal jazz, private vocal instruction, musical theater, and all styles of Christian music.

            The concert is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Gregory Memorial Auditorium.  The cost is $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for students.
