School Board Meeting Held On Jan. 14

The meeting started by Jeff Determan, high school principal, stating there will be Saturday school on January 26 and February 9.  He also noted there will be no school on January 21 due to Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and also no school on January 22 due to a teacher in service in Burke.  Parent/teacher conferences will be held on February 7.  Determan also discussed the NAAP tests in grades: 4, 8, and 12.  These grades will be tested in English or math.   Roger Frank has made All-State Middle School Band.  He will go on March 1-2.  Determan congratulated the students for having eight teams/activities make Academic All-State, which requires a GPA average of 3.0 or above.  The teams included are: volleyball, competitive cheer, boys cross country, girls cross country, competitive dance, All-State chorus, football cheer, and oral interpretation.

 

Sara Klein, superintendant, noted the lockdown procedures are in place and that all chemicals have been removed from the science classrooms.

 

Chris VanDerWerff, school board member, talked about the special education students starting OT and PT over tela-therapies.

 

Dave Shoemaker, school board president, proposed a 5-10 year plan for building and improvements to the school.  This plan included: 2011-2012, track and school parking lot; 2013, finish school parking lot; 2014, get a new bus and suburban; 2017, future expansion to the school building and school campus.

 

Klein then discussed the school’s ADM, average daily membership, which is now 88.533 making the Gorillas class B for two years in volleyball, girls and boys basketball, track, golf, competitive cheer, and competitive dance.  Football will stay at 9AA and wrestling will stay B.

 

GTO as the negotiating party for the certified staff was approved.

USE Local 160 as the negotiating party for the classified staff was approved.

 

School board election with municipal election on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, was approved.  Doug Pochop and Chris VandDerWerff have terms expiring.

 

 Resignation for Casey Antelope effective December 21, 2012 was approved.

Hiring Annie Grim as a special education paraprofessional was approved.

 

Next meeting will be held February 11, at 5:00 pm in the DDN room at the school.
