Students Travel to Press Convention

Six students and two teachers traveled to Brookings on October 24, for the South Dakota Press Association Convention.  Speaking there were Dr. Matthew Cecil, Dr. Lyle Olson, Susan Smith, and Frank Klock.

Dr. Matthew Cecil talked about the importance of social media and that journalism.  Although small newspapers may be dying out, news is simply going viral.

Dr. Lyle Olson chose several pages from different annuals and rated them good, better, and best.  He stated what colors are appealing on a page and what fonts look best.

Susan Smith broke down the word write and taught about good writing habits and correct ways to write in the media.

Frank Klock spoke about photography and ways to improve it.  These ways were framing, keeping the picture simple, the rule of thirds, lighting, and no objects in the background.
