Cowboys Collapse to the Gorillas

On Tuesday, the Gregory Gorillas took the win over the Colome Cowboys in districts.  The final score was 60-44.

            In the first quarter, the Gorillas scored 13 points and the Cowboys scored seven.  In the second quarter, Gregory scored 14 and Colome scored 11, bringing the score to 27-18.  In the third quarter, the Gorillas scored 10 more points and the Cowboys scored 16. At the end of the third quarter, Sean Kafka stole the ball from Reed Harter and scored at the buzzer.  After that, the Gorillas didn’t look back.  In the final quarter, the Gorillas out scored the Cowboys 23-10, ending the game with the score 60-44.

            Gavin Thomas was the leading scorer, bringing in 15 points.  Following Thomas was Andrew Taggart, with 11 points.  Cody Kafka made one three-pointer.  Kafka made 2-4 free throws.  Sam Voigt made 2-3 free throws.  Taggart made 5-7 of free throws.  Thomas had four offensive rebounds and eight defensive, a total of 12 rebounds.  Thomas also had six assists.

            “We came out ready to play.  We had a little stumble in the third quarter, but after we got through that, we had a great fourth quarter,” Coach Determan commented.

            The Gorillas play at the CornPalace in Mitchell tonight against the Marty Braves for the district championship starting at 8 p.m.  The admission is $6 for adults and $4 for students.
