Storm Heads to State with Eight

On Sat, Feb. 24 the Burke/Gregory Storm traveled to Winner for regions. There were 14 teams competing in the tournament. Winner placed first with 224 points, Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes placed second with 187 points, and the Burke/Gregory Storm placed third with 186 points. 

There were 14 Storm wrestlers competing at regions. To advance to the State Tournament individually, wrestlers must place 1-4. To be an alternate, one must place fifth or sixth at the regional tournament. The Storm had eight individuals advance and three alternates. 

Owen Hansen won all four of his matches and claimed first in the 120 weight class. His last match was against Lance Soukup (Wagner) with a decision of  4-1 with Owen on top. 

In the 145 weight class, Jackson Eklund took home first place, winning all four of his matches. Jackson’s championship match was against Iver Paul (Sunshine Bible Academy) by a fall in 2:42.

Frank Even wrestled in the 152 weight class and placed second, winning his first and losing his last match. Frank lost to a fall in 5:04. Frank Evan still advanced to state.

In the 160 weight class, Jordan Vosika placed third, winning his first match, losing his second, and winning his last. Vosika won his last match against Landon Wolter (WSWW). Jordan placed second at the regional tournament, moving onto state.

Finn Hanson also placed second in the 170 weight class at the tournament, winning his first two matches and losing his last. His last match was against Hunter Pranger (MVP) with a fall in 40 seconds. 

Tucker Even placed third in the 182 weight class, winning his first, losing his second, and winning his last match against Brock Stevens (WSWW). Tucker won the match in a decision 5-3. 

Taron Serr wrestled in the 192 weight class and placed second, winning his first two matches and losing his last one against Jordan Gall ( BHSA) in a fall in 3:05. 

Rhoss Oliver wrestled 285 and placed second, winning his first two and losing his last also. The championship match was against Achilles Willuweit (Winner) with a decision 8-4. 

The alternates for the state tournament are Zach Eklund, Jhett Eklund, and Gunnar Stephens. The Storm qualified for the duel tournament as a team as well. The tournament will be held on Feb. 27, 28, and 29 in Sioux Falls at the Sanford Premier Center.
