Storm Brings Home State Champion and a Fourth Place Team Finish

On Feb. 27, 28, and 29 the Storm wrestlers traveled to Sioux Falls for the 2020 state wrestling tournament. As a team the Storm placed fourth with 88.5 points, and first place went to Canton with 240.5 points. 

Owen Hansen wrestled in the 120 weight class. He won his first three matches and lost his last match against Riley Weber (Parkston) by a fall in 5:52. Hansen placed second, bringing home a state medal and gaining 21 points for the team.


Jackson Eklund placed first in the 145 weight class, winning a 2020 state wrestling title. Eklund won all four of his matches. His last match of his high school career was against Seth Peterson (Canton) by a fall in 5:52. As a senior, Eklund won a $12,000 scholarship after his match.

Frank Even wrestled in the 152 week class and placed third, with 20 team points. Even won his first two matches, lost his third, and won his last match. His last match of his last season was against Preston Nedved (Wagner) in a decision of 9-4. 

In the 170 weight class Fin Hanson placed seventh, giving the team 11 points. Hanson won his first match, lost his second, won his third, lost his fourth, and won his last match of the season. Hanson’s last match was against Gavin Holland. Hanson won by injury. 

Jordan Vosika, Tucker Even, Taron Serr, and Rhoss Oliver all wrestled in the individual tournament but did not place in the top eight.

In the dual tournament the team Wrestled Kimball/White Lake/Platte Geddes. The storm lost by three points in a very close dual. 

“This year the team showed tremendous effort throughout the entire season. It was amazing to watch the boys work hard with amazing effort,” said Coach Hansen.
