Cross Country continues to Improve

The Gregory Cross Country Team has been working hard over the past fall season. So far, the team has gone to five meets consisting of the Mitchell Invite, Gregory, Scotland, Wagner, and Bon Homme. The team has been improving their times and placements in every meet.
The Cross Country Team’s first meet was at the Wild Oak Golf Course in Mitchell on Aug. 31. The weather was very cold and rainy. The varsity race was four-kilometers long, Junior high was three kilometers long, and the middle school races was two kilometers long. Emma Thomas and Sierra Rencountre are the varsity girl’s runners for Gregory. Emma Thomas finished the race in 14th place with a time of 17:56, and Sierra Rencountre finished in 18th place with a time of 18:16. There were 45 girls in the varsity girls four-kilometer run. Carson Klundt and Luke Sinclair are the boys’ varsity runners for Gregory. Luke Sinclair also finished 14th in the race with a time of 15:34 and Carson Klundt finished in 23rd with a time of 15:48. The boys varsity race had 73 boys running in the race.
“It was a good first meet for the team,” Carson Klundt said.
The team’s second meet was home at the Gregory Golf Course on Sep. 3. The weather was warm and sunny. The girls varsity ran a five-kilometer race. Emma Thomas finished in second place with a time of 22:30, and Sierra Rencountre finished in fifth with a time of 24:55. For boys Varsity Luke Sinclair placed 14th and finished the 5k in 20:34, and Carson Klundt finished 15th with a time 20:34. The team ran well for the warm and humid weather.
“It was fun for it being only my second cross country race ever,” Sierra Rencountre said.
The cross-country team’s third meet of the season was at Dawson’s Creek Golf course in Scotland on Sept. 9. The weather was sunny and warm. For the girl’s varsity 5k, Emma Thomas placed 12th and ran the race in 22:01. Sierra Rencountre placed 18th and ran the race in 22:28. There we 42 girls that ran in the varsity race. For the boy’s varsity 5k, Luke Sinclair finished in 13th place with the time of 18:48. Carson Klundt finished in 21st place with the time of 20:26. There were 44 boys in the varsity race. Daniel Mitchell ran in the boys junior varsity 4k race and finished in seventh place with the time of 17:47.
“It was a nice day and a good course to run,” Luke Sinclair said.
For the next meet the team ran at the Wagner XC meet held at the Randall Hills Golf Course in Pickstown on Monday, sept. 16. The weather was cloudy and humid. Sierra Rencountre ran in the girls varsity 5k race and placed second with a time of 24:11. 13 girls ran in the varsity race. Luke Sinclair and Carson Klundt ran in the boys 5k race. Luke place second and ran the race in 19:02 and Carson Klundt placed ninth and ran the race in 20:47. 19 boys ran in the varsity race. Daniel Mitchell ran in the boys junior varsity 4k race and placed sixth with a time of 17:59. 15 boys ran in the JV 4k race.
“It was a nice and flat course to run on a humid day,” Daniel Mitchell said.
The Gregory XC team traveled to Bon Homme to run in their fifth meet of the season. The meet was at the Bon Homme Country Club on Sept. 23. The weather was sunny and very warm. Emma Thomas ran in the girls varsity 5k race and placed seventh out of 44 girls in the time of 22:09. Luke Sinclair and Carson Klundt ran in the boys varsity 5k race. Luke Sinclair placed 16th with the time of 20:12 and Carson Klundt placed 30th with the time of 21:32. 57 boys ran in the boys varsity 5k race. Daniel Mitchell finished 19th with the time of 18:05 in the boys JV race. 49 boys ran in the JV race.
