Lady Gorillas Crush Colome Cowgirls

On Monday, the girls’ varsity team beat Colome 57 to 50 in Gregory. The game started out with a strong lead for Gregory, and in the first quarter Gregory was ahead 13 – 3. By half time, the score was 27 – 16 with Gregory in the lead. Gregory maintained its lead into the third quarter when the score was 38 – 32. At the end of the game, Gregory won by seven points, had a 30% field goal percentage, and a 26% free throw percentage. The Lady Gorillas had 49 rebounds, 8 assists, 16 steals, 1 block, 14 turnovers, and 19 personal fouls.

Sydney Svatos scored 17 points during the game, making 7 of 18 (39%) of her field goals and 3 of 5 (60%) of her free throws. Jessy Jo VanDerWerff made 4 of 21 (19%) of her field goals and 7 of 8 (88%) of her free throws for 15 total points. Megan Warnke scored 10 points, making 5 of 12 (42%) of her field goals and 0 of 1 (0%) of her free throws. Brooklyn VanDerWerff made 3 of 7 (43%) of her field goals and 2 of 6 (33%) of her free throws for 9 points.

Sydney Svatos had her third double double in a row on Monday. She made 17 points and 16 rebounds. She also had 3 steals. Gracie Kenzy took 8 rebounds and two steals. Jessy Jo VanDerWerff had 7 rebounds, 7 assists, and 5 steals. Megan Warnke grabbed 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Brooklyn VanDerWerff had 7 rebounds and one steal.

“It was a good win for us; we really needed it. We need to pull out another win tomorrow against Burke to get a home region game,” Senior Megan Warnke said.

Tomorrow the girls travel to Burke for their last regular season game. The C- team game is scheduled for 5:15 p.m.
