Gregory HS Boys’ Track Team Wins the Meet of Legends

On May 1, the Gregory High School Track Team traveled to Burke to compete in the Meet of Legends. Ten other teams competed, including Corsica-Stickney, Winner, Burke/South Central, Platte-Geddes, Todd County, Lyman, Kimball/White Lake, Saint Francis, Colome, and Marty. The girls’ team placed sixth with 65 points and the boys’ team won the track meet with 89 points.

For the girls JayCee Bartling placed fourth out of 27 participants in the 100m dash and made it to finals placing seventh with a 14.45. For the 400m dash, Megan Warnke placed second out of 20 with a 1:06.36. Emma Thomas placed third in the 1600m run with a time of 5:43.32. In the 100m hurdles, BriLee Peck made it to the finals placing sixth with an 18.87. Also, Jessy VanDerWerff placed third out of 14 in the 300m hurdles with a 53.50. For the girls’ relays Gregory placed sixth in the 4x100m relay with a 58.22, which consisted of Bartling, Jaslee Kerner, Sydney Svatos, and Peck. In the 4x400m relay, Gregory placed fifth with a time of 4:57.84 and consisted of Kerner, Peck, Svatos, and Salma Serr. Gregory also placed third in the 1600 sprint medley with a 4:35.70 and consisted of VanDerWerff, Bartling, Warnke, and Thomas.

For the boys’ team, Caleb Stukel placed second in finals in the 100m dash with a time of 11.47 and also placed second in the 200m dash with a 23.88. In the 800m run, Aaron Voigt won first with a 2:06.63, and Cenek Kaspar placed fifth with a time of 2:17.71. Max Klundt placed sixth in the 1600m run with a 5:24.50. Jayd VanDerWerff placed first in the 300m hurdles with a time of 46.55 and Tommy Determan came in behind with a 47.03 to win second place. J. VanDerWerff also placed fourth in long jump, jumping 18-11.00 and Evan Juracek placed first in triple jump, jumping a 39-03.50. In high jump, Determan placed second, jumping 5-11.00. For relays, Gregory placed first with a time of 3:48.66 in the 1600 sprint medley and consisted of Stukel, J. VanDerWerff, Kaspar, and Voigt. Also, the boys’ team placed third in the 4x100m relay with a 47.47 consisting of Tyler Murray, Stukel, Kaspar, and VanDerWerff. In the 4x200m relay the boys placed sixth with a 1:48.06 and consisted of Determan, Luke Murray, Juracek, and Rhoss Oliver.

“It’s been a really good season so far because we keep getting better at each track meet. I feel that we are going to dominate this year at the regional track meet because we have been working really hard, and we are a really dedicated team” senior Bailey Beck said. You can catch some more action at the next track meet in Chamberlain on May 12, with field events staring at 10 a.m.
