On Tuesday the Gorillas Basketball Team traveled to Chamberlain to take on the Cubs. At the end of the first half, the Cubs led 15-8. The Cubs kept control over the Gorillas the whole game with a final score of 63-24. Senior Jayd VanDerWerff led the Gorillas with 13 points, and senior Dylan Borszich followed behind with seven.

The Gorillas offense consisted of VanDerWerff leading with 6/16 in field goals for 38%, and Borszich followed behind with 2/8 for 25%. Borszich led with free throws with 3/5 for 60%; Aaron Voigt and VanDerWerff each followed with 1/2 free throws for 50% each. VanDerWerff also led the Gorillas with 2-point field goals with 6/12 for 50%, and Borszich trailed closely behind with 2/7 for 29%. Voigt led in steals with two, and Max Klundt, Borszich, VanDerWerff, and Evan Juracek trailed closely behind with one a piece to add the team’s total of six.

VanDerWerff led the Gorillas with two offensive rebounds and six defensive rebounds, and Tommy Determan followed with four defensive rebounds. The team had a total of four offensive rebounds and 16 defensive rebounds. Determan left the game in the third quarter after fouling out with five fouls. Grant Thomas and Voigt had three fouls each, VanDerWerff and Jurack had two each, and Klundt had one. The team had a total of 16 fouls.

The Gorillas next game will be tonight in Springview, Neb., against the Rock County Knights, with girls JV starting at 4:00 p.m., following with boys JV, girls varsity, and finally boys varsity.
