Lady Spikers start season

Teresa Webster, Head Coach

The Gregory Lady Spikers started off their season on August 25th against Kimble-White Lake. It is always hard to know where you stand until after your first competition. I saw some nice things from the girls and can see a lot of potential, but also saw where we need to work. At the end of the evening we ended up with a loss but I was proud of how the girls kept fighting to the end. The final scores were 20-25, 16-25, 20-25. As a team we only had 15 kills. This is an area we continue to work on. Hannah Juracek led us with 4. Alexa Hannahs had 8 set assist. Maddie handled most of our serve receive with 30/31 and Lauren Svatos had 9 digs, Eklund dug 8 and Hannahs had 7. Megan Warnke led the team with service points at 9.

Our second opponent was St. Francis. This was a win for the Lady Gorillas. The scores were 25-5, 25-7, 25-13. It is always nice to have a win and the student body was really great! They had a lot of fun and made the game fun for the girls. We thank everyone who participated in the evening! Allison Ekroth broke the school record with 10 ace serves for the night and 17 points! Hannah Juracek had 8 kills for the night and Allison had 4. Alexa Hannahs had 16 set assists. Maddie led defensively with 7 digs and Allison had 6.

On September 1st the Lady Spikers traveled to Presho to play Lyman. They are a senior loaded team that has had state tournament experiences. We knew they would be a tough team. As a team we dug the ball 43 times. Eklund led with 11 and Svatos had 9. Those two girls do a good job and we expect a lot out of them back there. We had 15 kills as a total and Hannah Juracek, Megan Warnke, and Allison Ekroth all had 4 a piece. The team served 5 aces but we struggled to create points. We only earned 13 points as a team. Our final scores were 15-25, 7-25, 15-25.
