Gregory Cheer/Dance Invite

Jenelle Darke, Head Coach

Gorilla fans, we are ready to lead you into a spirit filled school year! The Gregory Cheer and Dance teams are pumped up about their season. Hopefully many of you got a chance to come out and support the squads on Saturday at their first competition here at the Gregory Auditorium. Gregory competed against five other schools in heer and three schools in dance. This was the first competition for all of the squads which included Gregory, Winner, Wagner, Platte-Geddes, Dakota Valley and Bon Homme.

The final rankings in cheer were very close. Wagner  came in first, Bon Homme second , Winner and Platte-Geddes tied for third and Gregory was only 1.5 points behind them  in fourth, and Dakota Valley came in fifth place.

Only four schools competed in the dance portion of the competition. Dakota Valley came in first, Platte Geddes second, Gregory third and Winner came in fourth. The teams compete with three dance routines. Gregory performed Pom, Jazz, Kick and Hip Hop. Kick was our highest scoring routine.

We were very pleased with our performance this past weekend but of course are striving for improvement. We have an incredibly young squad this year with 50% of our squad being seventh graders. The dance squad is made up of two seniors, two juniors, one sophomore, one freshman, and six seventh graders. The cheer team is made up of the same girls minus one senior.  The girls obviously would like to bring home a couple of plaques from our five competitions prior to state but they do recognize that this is a building year for us. Our veteran cheerleaders and dancers have shown great leadership to our younger girls.

Many of our competitions are far away but our next competition on September 10 is in Winner. The time is TBA but please watch for it and come out to support our cheer and dance squads.
