Gorillas fall short to Cubs

The Gorilla Basketball Team opened the season Monday night against the Chamberlain Cubs. The Gorillas fought hard but came up short losing the game 63-42.
Gregory’s leading scorers on the night were senior Sean Kafka with 16 and junior Robert Vomacka with 13. The Gorillas shot 32% from the field making 15/47 shots. Vomacka and sophomore Kolton Salonen shot the only free-throws for the Gorillas. Vomacka shot 2/4 and Salonen was 1/2. The Gorillas had a total of 9 assists. Kafka and sophomore Aaron Voigt led the team with 3 assists apiece. The Gorillas also gave up 16 turnovers.
The Cubs came out in the first quarter and outscored the Gorillas 14-3. The second quarter went better for the Gorillas but were still outscored by 5 points making the score 33-17. The Gorillas then came out after halftime and outscored the Cubs 17-11 pushing the score to 44-34. The Gorillas could not overcome the 10 point deficit and were outscored by 8 points in the last quarter.
The Gorillas next game will be in the Swiftell Center in Brookings against Estelline starting at 1:45 on Tuesday, Dec. 29.
