The Gregory Gorillas Girls Basketball Team played Gayville-Volin on Friday, Jan. 3. In the first quarter the Lady Gorillas started off strong and lead the game 16-5. After ending the first half, they were on top by 14 points, making the score 25-14. In the third quarter the Gorillas scored 19 points and Gayville-Volin scored four. Finishing the game up in the fourth quarter, the Gorillas scored six points and Gayville-Volin scored four. The final score of the game was 50-19.
Freshman Jessy VanDerWerff was the top scorer of the night, scoring 16 points. She shot 6 of 18 field goals for a 33% shooting percentage. Right behind her, Senior Sydney Svatos scored nine points. She shot 4 of 7 field goals for a 57% shooting percentage. The team shot four out of six free throws for 67%. The Lady Gorillas made two out of seven three pointers for 29%. The team made 20 of 38 two-pointers for 53%. Svatos had eight total rebounds. J. VanDerWerff had six assists. The team had 11 steals total.
“It was a fun, exciting game where we all worked hard together to achieve our goal,” said Senior Brooklyn VanDerWerff.
