Monday, February 26 through Friday, March 2, marked “Read Across America Week,” a week to celebrate reading. It also happened to be Dr. Seuss’s Birthday on the 2, so to celebrate the elementary had a week of festive dress up days followed by fun Friday including art, games, snacks, and movies.

Dress up days consisted of pajamas on Monday to honor the Dr. Seuss story I am Not Going to get up Today. On Tuesday they arrived in green clothes/ugly Christmas sweaters for The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. Wednesday became Wacky Wednesday, the day to wear your clothes backwards, inside out, or mismatched. Thursday was crazy socks thanks to The Foot Book. Last but definitely not least, Friday was hat day for The Cat in The Hat, of course.

Fun Friday consisted of taking the last half of the day off to celebrate the life of Dr. Seuss, and, of course, have some fun. The sixth graders set up centers including the food center, where they created snack cups. The next center was the movie center, where kids watched a movie while eating their snacks. After that, everyone headed outside to draw in the snow with Kool-Aid at the snow art center. Next they headed to the gym for Yertle the Turtle relays, knocking over cups, and a game of hockey. After the gym, the next activity was making oobleck to take home. The last center of the day included making Dr. Seuss hats at the art center.
