Gorillas Fall to Black Panthers and WiLdKats but Squeeze by Thunder

On Jan. 14, the Gorillas played the Platte/Geddes Black Panthers at home. The final score was 55-52. Coy Determan had 17 points to end the game.

On the offensive side, the team was 20/62 for 32% from the field. The team was 4/9 for 44% from the free throw line. C. Determan’s 17 points were followed by Evan Juracek’s 14, and Tommy Determan’s 12. Juracek had 6/10 offensive rebounds.

On the defensive side, the team had 12 steals, 26 rebounds, and two blocks. C. Determan had four defensive rebounds, T. Determan and Juracek had three, Grant Thomas, Bryan Eagle Star, and Garret Roeder all had two.

Within 30 seconds of the game left, the Gorillas and the Black Panthers were tied. The Black Panthers shot a three and made it. The Gorillas were trying to push the ball at the end but couldn’t get a shot up.
On Thursday, the Gorillas traveled to Kimball to play the WiLdKats. At the end of the fourth quarter, the score was 64-64; teams were tied, and the Gorillas went into overtime with the WiLdKats and lost by seven. The final score was 80-73. C. Determan had 21 points to end the game.

On the offensive side, the team was 25/68 for 37% from the field. The team was 10/11 for 91% from the free throw line. C. Determan’s 21 points were followed by T. Determan’s 20 points. T. Determan had 4 offensive rebounds and Eagle Star had two.

On the defensive side, the team had six steals, 22 rebounds, and three blocks. C. Determan and Eagle Star had 11/16 defensive rebounds.

On Saturday, the Gorillas played the Andes Central/Dakota Christian Thunder at home. The Gorillas and the Thunder were tied at the end of first quarter. Second quarter the Gorillas were up by three points. In the third quarter, the Thunder was losing by one, and at the end of the fourth quarter, the Thunder was trailing behind the Gorillas. C. Determan made a basket at the end to win it, and the Thunder couldn’t find a way to catch up. The final score was 51-49. C. Determan had 21 points to end the game.

On the offensive side, the team was 17/54 for 31% from the field. The team was 12/23 for 52% from the free throw line. C. Determan’s 21 points were followed by T. Determan’s 15 points. Juracek and C. Determan each had two rebounds to add to the total of six.

On the defensive side, the team had eight steals, 25 rebounds, and two blocks. C. Determan and T. Determan each had six defensive rebounds.

Today the Gorillas will be traveling to Avon to play the Pirates. The JV game will begin at 6:30 and varsity will follow.
