On Friday, Sep. 21, the Gregory High School Marching Band, clad in sharp matching uniforms and sunglasses, marched down the Main Street of Platte playing “Superstition” by Stevie Wonder. The Gregory band, directed by Jared Opp, dominated the competition at the Missouri Valley Marching Festival. There were three teams competing in Class A: Corsica-Stickney, which earned 676 points; Mt. Vernon/Plankinton, which scored 718 points; and Gregory, with a winning score of 773 points.

Both the Gregory Flag Corps, directed by Katie Opp, and the Drum Major, Addy Nelson, won first place in Class A. The drum line received second place.

“The students have been working hard since the start of school. It paid off with a good performance on Friday,” Jared Opp said. “We are looking forward to going up to a bigger event to see how we size up to the competition.”

The band will compete in the Sioux Falls Festival of Bands competition on Saturday. This time, there will be 11 bands in Class A. The parade begins at 8:00 a.m., and the Gregory Band is fourth in line.
