Gorillas prequalify two more for state

The Gregory High School Track Team traveled to Freeman on Tuesday for a meet. It was a large meet which consisted of 20 teams. Out of those 20 teams the boys placed 4th overall with 74 team points.

Johan Andersen placed 6th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.47. Daniel Bruque also placed 6th in the 800 meter run with a 2:21. Aaron Voigt placed 4th in the 1 mile with a time of 4:50 and 1st in the 2 mile with a school record breaking time of 10:22. Joseph Veskrna placed 5th in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.94 and 1st in the 300 meter hurdles breaking the state standard with a 42.32 and punching his ticket for the state track meet. The 4×400 meter relay team placed 5th running a 3:39.86. The medley relay team placed 5th with a time of 4:09. In the high jump Triv Vosika placed 3rd, and Blake Boes placed 4th both with jumps of 5’11”. Vosika was already prequalified, but this was Boes first time breaking standard and will also be competing in the state track meet. Robert Vomacka placed 2nd in triple jump with a leap of 38’11”, and Voigt placed 6th with a 36’9”. For the girls the 4×100 meter relay team placed 2nd with a time of 54.7. An extra relay was added in the meet called “the weight relay.” This was a co-ed relay which consisted of athletes who usually just throw shot put and discus. The Gregory team placed 2nd with a time of 54.27.

Boes said, “It was a great day overall for the team having more than one person prequalify. It was really nice to finally prequalify because I knew I could; it just took me longer than I would’ve liked.”

The next meet will be the Howard Wood Relays in Sioux Falls on Friday and Saturday. The athletes who will be competing for the Gorillas will be Aaron Voigt, Jayd VanDerWerff, Robert Vomacka, Joseph Veskrna, Lauren Svatos, Sydney Svatos, Megan Warnke, Triv Vosika, and Johan Anderson.
