Titans Overcome Gorillas

The Gregory Gorillas’ Basketball Team started off the 2014 year with a tough game against Mt. Vernon/Plankinton losing only by seven points.
In the first quarter, both teams fought hard ending it 15-18. The second quarter the boys racked up nine points, bringing the score to 24-26. Starting the second half, the Gorillas trailed by one point with the score being 32-33. In the fourth quarter, the Gorillas slowed down and let MVP pull ahead with 14 points. The final score was 40-47.
Gavin Thomas was the leading scorer, he brought in ten points. Following Thomas, Robert Vomacka and Andrew Taggart each made 7 points.
The Gorillas made 29 rebounds, 23 defensively and six offensively. Leading the rebounds was Taggart, with seven all on defense.
“Defensively we played really well. We got a little sloppy with the basketball in the second half, but overall they played hard and got beat by a good team,” Coach Determan said.
“We knew they were a good team coming in,” Taggart said, “but we played a pretty solid game overall.”
The Gorillas’ next game will be tonight in Lower Brule starting at 6:30 p.m.
